What to Expect

During your first interview we want to learn about your ministry.  It is a time for us to meet you and get acquainted with you, your family and your ministry.

  • We will ask you to tell us about your family
  • We will ask you to tell us about your journey of faith...How you became a Christian...Your ministry...What you see as your call to ministry...What your ministry involvements are at the present time.
  • We encourage you to bring your spouse to this meeting.

O & L I

Wanda Byrd

Wanda Byrd and husband Mike were licensed Ministers of Music in the Church of the Nazarene for 10 years prior to being led to the Church of God in 1985. They are now active in South Memorial Dr. Church in New Castle.  She is a registered nurse who answered a call to prepare for ministry in 1997, was ordained in 2000, and graduated Anderson University Seminary in 2002. Wanda continues to teach nursing part-time and has taken additional training as an emergency services chaplain. She responds to calls for people in crisis in Henry County and ministers to people who don't have a pastor. The Byrds enjoy providing music and preaching ministry to churches as needed. They have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. She loves to cook for family and friends, play piano, and knit.          

 

 

 

Gene Fauntleroy

Gene answered God's call to the Christian ministry while a college student, many years ago.  His ministry call led him to attend the Anderson University School of Theology.  He married Becky Dreger and together they have served in pastoral ministry throughout the past 45 years.  Gene is blessed to have served on the O & L Committee for more than 12 years, particularly happy in helping candidates clarify their call to ministry.

 

 

 

 

 

Chris Gammello

Chris graduated from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio with a BA in history and a minor in broadcast communications.  He spent more than 2 years in professional radio as a sports director and announcer for high school sporting events.  During this time he began to answer the call to youth ministry, serving in that role part-time.  In 1996 Chris left radio to become a full-time youth pastor.  He served as a youth pastor for more than 8 years in Louisiana and Kentucky, then as a senior pastor in Pennsylvania until last year when he accepted the pastorate at the South Memorial Church of God in New Castle, Indiana.  He and the love of his life, Tonya, have been married for 14 years.  They have 2 daughters:  Hannah who is 9 and Lexi who is 6.

Charles Shumate

Charles R. Shumate is President of Church Builders Plus of the Church of God, Inc. He was born in Meridian, Mississippi, entered the ministry in 1968 and was ordained by the Kentucky Ministerial Assembly in 1970. He graduated from Anderson College and did his seminary work at Emanuel School of Religion, Lexington Theological Seminary and Asbury Seminary. He received his Doctor of Education from Ball State University in Educational Leadership.

His pastoral experiences include ministering as Associate Pastor in Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky and also Kingsport, Tennessee. He pastored in Kingsport and served as President of the City Ministerial Association for two terms. He was on the Executive Committee of the Tennessee General Assembly, and served as State Secretary.

He has provided church growth, renewal and evangelism training services to over 1,250 congregations in seminars, retreats, and conferences. Speaking engagements take him to preaching missions, camp meetings, and youth conventions. 

Charles and his wife Laretta live in Anderson, Indiana. They have two married daughters. Chausette, their oldest daughter, lives in California and Chara lives in Anderson.
